I help boards understand their role, and I help senior staff work effectively with their boards, so meetings lead to decisions instead of frustration.
Many boards struggle to find their collective voice or to know how to read and act on what's presented at meetings. My facilitated sessions help board members understand their roles and responsibilities, ask the questions they may hesitate to raise in a formal meeting, and recognize the distinct value each person brings to the table.
Working with a board is one of the least-taught parts of an executive's job. I work one-on-one with executive directors and senior staff on board situations that are hard to talk through inside the organization, such as:

I've served as executive director and CEO in nonprofit and research organizations, provided board training and governance support, and helped more than 40 nonprofits obtain 501(c)(3) designation. I've also served on local and national boards of directors, so I know the board relationship from both sides of the table: as the staff leader reporting to a board, and as a board member. I know how much smoother an organization runs when that relationship is working.
